What We Provide
We provide a desk, power, chair and Internet.
There are 2 electrical outlets per machine (monitor + machine).
We CAN provide you with a George Brown machine!
In the form, choose "Give me a George Brown machine" from the "I will bring" dropdown.
The machines are pretty amazing.
Saturday and Sunday evening, sponsors will be providing
dinner!
Possibly a light breakfast.
Otherwise, food is your responsibility.
We're not sure we can provide microwave/freezer/fridge. Working on it.
The world famous and still free
Candystand will return,
along with the essential Red Bull fortification.
What You Bring
- All the large software/assets you need.
i.e. Install files for large software you use
i.e. Libraries of sound effects, music, graphic assets
Internet access might be spotty, so assume the worst.
You likely won't be able to download gigs of data.
Download before TOJam and bring it on USB.
- Power cables - especially if you're bringing a laptop!
- USB Key / Portable Hard Drive. If we have network problems, you'll need this to transfer files between team members.
- Should you require more than 2 outlets, bring a powerbar.
- While the rooms are air conditioned, it's a tricky situation.
Some seats will be too cold, others will be too hot.
DRESS IN LAYERS in case things get unbalanced.
- Change for street parking meters. Money for parking attendants.
We're concerned some might not accept credit or debit.
- Saturday and Sunday dinners are provided by generous sponsors.
We might be able to provide a light breakfast - the rest is up to you.
- Cash to buy food - especially if you're staying all night.
- George Brown has beautiful 24" Apple monitors available. They are NOT VGA, DVI or HDMI compatible.
If you want to use it, you'll need to bring a
Mini DisplayPort adapter.
Those adapters will be worth more than gold.
- Water Bottle/Cup/Mug - for tap water or coffee. We're providing free coffee (prepare to grind).
Alas, there's no water cooler this year.
- Gum. You can never have too much gum.
- If you're sleeping at the jam (we strongly recommend you don't),
expect to sleep on a hard floor with thin carpet.
Bring something to sleep on (sleeping matt, foam, air mattress), a sleeping bag and a pillow.
Also: Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Change of clothes, and a Towel for washing up.
While there are a few small couches, they'll likely be taken (400 people are attending).
- Headphones! You will probably need music to drown out conversation around you.
Music for those headphones. Until Sunday 8:00pm, speakers are outlawed.
- Speakers! On Sunday, from 9:15pm - 11:00pm, you'll be showing off your game to everyone.
You probably want speakers to do that - especially if you used a sound floater.
This is the only time speakers are allowed. We'll keep the volumes under control.
- Gamepads (recommend XBOX). Easier for people to play your game on Sunday evening.
- Umbrella... ella... ella.
- Pencil & Paper, if that's how you roll
- Digital Camera - because everyone knows game programmers are renowned for their good looks
- Medication - Allergy. Heartburn. Asthma. You're going to be here for a long time.
Last, but most important,
Don't forget to bring a well thought out game design!
If you just start thinking about your game idea on Friday night, it will be too late.
Bring EXTRA Stuff
People, including your organizers, always forget to bring stuff.
Bringing extra stuff means if someone forgets to bring an item, you get to be a hero!
I'll announce requests for extra stuff during the jam.
Label your stuff!
We're looking for extra:
- Switches/Hubs/Routers that can provide wireless internet (we plug them into an ethernet jack)
- Ethernet cable
- Power Bars
- Apple Power Adapters/Cords/Monitor connectors
- Laptop Power Adapter
- USB Keys / Flash drives
- Cables - VGA, HDMI, USB, Power - people constantly forget these
- XBOX Controllers (Wired or Wireless) / PC XBOX Wireless Adapters
- Mice, Mousepads, Tablets!
- Scanners
- Headphones, Speakers
- Anything you can think of
Don't go out of your way to bring any of these items, since we may not need them.
If it's relatively easy for you to bring any of these, thanks in advance!
